Festive Venice

WARNING : extra long post :-)
Hello! Finally last Friday we got snowed too! Not a pleasant moment though, and not much snow like in the rest of Italy and Europe, but those 5 damned centimeters enough for having my brand new Ugg boots soaked! Gggrrr!I thought you'd like to have checked how is the situation in.......
..Venice!
Yes Venice lovers, I'm treating you once again to a visit to the town itself...let's hope Santa will include me on the list of the good ones :-)
...many thanks to this 3 people for coming down from the bridge at the right moment....he he..what a perfect shot!
...Not much snow left, thanks to a couple of glorious sunny days which saved our skin... and bones!

..The only reason for which my mum accepted my invitation to come along was...a flea market!
...I'm pretty sure some of you will go mad at the sight of these....

...I had to sneak into the private court of one of the poshest hotel for taking this shot of Punta della Dogana......
..I tried to stop my parents in front of Monsieur Louis Vuitton :-), but they ignored me and headed for Saint Mark's Square :-(((

.. A spot to one of the best cake shops in town...for a hot chocolate and a spritz....I had both..shame on dad who introduced me to the world of alcohol :-)
...The building on the left is the hospital.......

...An ice cream against the cold weather :-).....
...A night view over the Grand Canal..sorry for the poor quality of this picture, I have still not managed to "understand" the behaviour of my camera when it gets dark :-)...
...The last novelty in Venice...a space-age funicular...quite embarassing eh?!....
..and the most kitsch souvenir which came home with us ......
A very Merry Christmas to you all !!! Lots of love from Venice...where else?! :-)

Oh it's all quite sickening. I think I may need a trip to that Venice hospital right now. Honestly how does anyone get anything done in the most amazing looking city in the world? Can you actually work there?!! Thank you so much for the most splendid photos dearest Michela, I do hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful Christmas time xxx

How fabulous. You've posted some beautiful photos for us non-Venetians. I'd have wanted to have purchased all of those pretty Xmas baubles.
Happy, happy Christmas. x

A wonderful post Michela with lots of lovely photos. The baubles in the market were gorgeous and so were the sweet shops! Despite being so cold I could really eat one of those ice creams right now! x

What strikes me most is that there is no queue at the Piazza San Marco! When we were there in summer you couldn't (read wouldn't) visit the cathedral because of a queue about 10 miles at 8.30 in burning sun.
Mmm I guess I'll come back in winter :-)!

Did those canals ever freeze? Probably not as they are in connection with sea...

Merry Christmas! Love the photos of the vintage ornaments, are they expensive in Venice, over here the ones you showed on the first photo are about 9 euros average (in an antique store not if you're lucky) . Hohoho!
